LANZO - COLLE DEL LYS - SUSA: CYCLING THE GREAT STAGES OF THE HISTORY OF THE GIRO D'ITALIA

Activity description

The Giro d’Italia did this route in 2019, 13^ stage Pinerolo-Ceresole Reale climbing right from Viù.
Susa, on the other hand, was the stage city of many arrivals and departures of the Giro d’Italia. The last in 2018, with the departure for Cervinia.

Day 1

– Check-in at the 4* Hotel in Borgaro Torinese
– Free afternoon to discover the most fascinating places in the area. Obviously, you cannot miss a visit to one of the most famous Savoy residences, the majestic Reggia di Venaria. La Venaria Reale is a masterpiece of architecture and landscape, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It will be a pleasure to walk among the masterpieces, its Gardens and the Castello della Mandria with its Borgo Cittadino.
– Dinner at a restaurant on Via Mensa and where the menu offers typical dishes of Piedmontese cuisine

– Return to the hotel and overnight stay.

Day 2

– Rich breakfast at the hotel.
– Day dedicated to our STAGE number 07 among the Alpine Valleys closest to Turin.
Tear, eat and drink as you go up the Lanzo Valleys. Then a long descent towards Col del Lys and Susa,
on the roads of the Giro in the shadow of the Sacra di San Michele, symbol of Piedmont.
The 75 km route with an elevation gain of 1,291 m starts from the center of Lanzo Torinese, in the direction of Germagnano. Outside the town we follow the signs for Val di Viù. The road immediately tends
to climb, alternating flat stretches up to the town. A slight downhill
stretch to Versino, turns left and begins at the ascent of the Col del Lys, 13.5 km with an average
gradient of 4.3%. The long descent leads us to the Susa Valley, passing through Rubiana we arrive at Sant’Ambrogio di Torino. A right turn in the direction of Susa where the road is slightly uphill but with gentle and pedalable slopes. We cross the villages of Sant’Antonino di Susa and San Giorio di Susa. After 10 km of slight ascent we arrive in the center of Susa
– Return to the hotel, dinner on your own and overnight stay.

Day 3

– Breakfast at the hotel and checkout
And of course you cannot miss a visit to one of the symbols of Piedmont, the majestic
Sacra di San Michele. It is an ancient abbey built between 938 and 987 on the top of Mount
Pirchiriano, just 40 km from Turin. Recognized as a symbolic monument of the Piedmont Region, it
is also the place that inspired the writer Umberto Eco for the best-seller “The Name of the Rose”.
From the top of its towers you can admire the Piedmontese capital and a breathtaking
view of the Susa Valley.
