This is the famous phrase of the radio commentator Mario Ferretti who perfectly described a part of the historic Cuneo-Pinerolo stage in 1949. This stage has left its mark on sport, that day Coppi launched himself into the most legendary breakaway in the history of the Giro, 195km arriving at the finish line with 11 minutes and 52 seconds ahead of the second, Gino Bartali; in third position Alfredo Martini arrived after 20 minutes.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

Day 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nFree afternoon to discover the most fascinating places in the area. Pinerolo, whose territory has been inhabited since prehistoric times, experienced struggles and rebellions under Thomas I of Savoy and then peace and prosperity under Thomas II of Savoy and his descendants of the Achaea branch, then suffered French domination in 1536, Cardinal Richelieu himself then entrusted Vauban with the greatest military architect of the time and the fortress of Pinerolo, the Donjon, was also used as a prison, where Louis XIV sent his enemies, including the mysterious character known as the “Iron Mask”.

\nA day dedicated to the Valley of businesses (and of the Agnelli). These are the valleys of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympic Games. Lands of sport in all its forms, of great sports facilities, snow sports and great cycling, in Val Ghisone there have been numerous passages of the Giro d’Italia and Pinerolo has also been a stage of the Tour del France. “A single man in charge, his jersey is blue and white: his name is Fausto Coppi” is the famous phrase of the radio commentator Mario Ferretti of the Pontifical Orchestra of the Pontifical Orchestra.
\nThe 55 km route with an elevation gain of 1,772 m starts from the center of Pinerolo in the direction of Abbadia Alpina, and San Marino hamlet, we take the SS at San Germano Ghisone. We no longer leave the road at the bottom of the valley to Sestriere with a constant ascent. After 33 km we arrive in Fenestrelle with the road that winds through two hairpin bends paved with cobblestones, here on the right we see the fort that is worth a visit. The first challenging stretch is just outside the town but after 2 km the road returns with milder slopes. In Pragelato we see the Olympic ski jump of Turin 2006, from here and for 7 km the road changes gradient to Sestriere reaching an average of 5.7%.
\nThis mythical stretch was decisive for the victory of many stage finishes of the Giro d’Italia.

Day 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Parco dei Fiori or the Val Troncea Natural Park is an excellent excuse to explore and walk in a treasure trove of biodiversity; it was established in 1980 by the Piedmont Region and protects 3280 hectares, occupying the head of the catchment basin of the Chisone stream. Since 2012 it has been part of the system of protected areas of the Cottian Alps, a protected area that is part of the municipality of Pragelato.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
